Catalinbread Galileo MKII

Here is a layout for the Catalinbread Galileo MKII, the new, updated version of the well known Galileo.

Info about the original:
The Galileo is a custom-tuned Rangemaster booster combined with the pre-amp section of a Vox AC30 delivering the distinctive throaty mid-range and jangly crunch of Brian May.
The Galileo has three controls tuned to deliver the essence of the Brian May sound - GAIN, TONE, and VOLUME.
With guitar volume knob turned full up, you’ll get the soaring lead tones and tight but aggressive rhythm tones of Brian May.
Turn your guitar volume knob down slightly and you’ll be tying your mother down all night.
Turn your guitar down further and you’ll get an amazing jangly clean sound that isn’t really clean but is!
In a full band context, this pedal will cut through with just the right frequencies to fit perfectly in the mix.

  4. I know this is not the place to post this but I don't know where to post general questions -so forgive me if there is an obvious place. But:
Does anyone know a method of putting two amps into one cab?
I have a vintage fender twin and an old 70's orange head which I was foolishy going to sell for floor space, and then lightbulb moment - can't I play that through the fender cab speakers using a switch?
I fly by the seat of my pants electronically, but I have managed to make some pretty decent pedals courtesy of the chaps here - so naturally I thought to ask the tried and tested.
If anyone can help that would be Great.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Head on over to the forums and ask there. Then it won't get buried in posts about this pedal.

    1. I'd assume that stands for Current Limiting Resistor. 4.7k should be an acceptable value...

  8. The layout says 23 cuts, but I only count 22 - is there one hiding? Thanks!

  9. What other jfets sound good in this circuit? mpf4393 are nearly impossible to find it seems.

  10. PN4393 would work fine but any N-channel JFET should work and sound close enough. J201, 2N5457, MPF102, etc.

  11. I just built this, sounds awesome!!! I used J113 JFETs and the 2n2222a of course and works really well. Great job guys, thank you for this awesome site

  12. Built mine with 2n5457, sounds great !

  13. I replaced the 1n cap between vol 1 & 3 by 10n and it sounds much better, I can now really roll back the highs.
The only thing I'd like to change is the gain pot course, I have full gain almost immediatly when I turn the pot, any suggestion ?

  14. Hey whats the deal with the brown looking resistor bits? (Forgive me if i appear a dumbass..)

    1. if anyone was wondering (like i was) the brown and blue are resistors. I also tested with a 2n2222 and q2-5 j201 and q6 2n5457. The 5457 made it effing loud like you wouldnt believe so i swapped for another j201. Lovely tone and volume levels, will experiment with some other jfets tomorrow.

  15. .... Hi everybody. Maybe can somebody help out there. I built the pedal, bypass get OK, when "ON" the led lights but no sound. Later I discovered that when I make a bridge between "Tone3" and the tip of the output jack it works (cannot say whether 100% "Galileo" or not, but the Volume and Gain controls works). Very strange. I suspect maybe it´s something with the switch connections. Had everyone else experienced such anomaly? Thanks in advance!

    1. Tone 3 connects to the next gain stage (4th transistor)...it probably means that whatever is making your pedal have no sound is on that 4th gain stage. I'd start by trying more transistors and biasing them by ear using a trimpot or regular potentiometer.

  16. Hi guys, it's been impossible to purchase a C type potentiometer in my town, and honestly I haven't found much on the web. Is there a way to replace this one? Have someone has this problem?

    1. C pots are reverse logs so I just use a "A" Log pot and reverse the wiring...it works for me.
